Pool pump impeller replacement
A pool pump impeller transfers energy from the motor to the water inside the pump housing. When an impeller is damaged or worn, choosing the right replacement begins with the complete pump and motor identification—not the shape in a photograph alone. This page is intended for pool-service businesses, parts distributors and maintenance buyers preparing a replacement inquiry.
How to identify the correct impeller
- Pump details: provide the brand, model and version from the pump nameplate, plus the motor model and rated power.
- Existing part: share the original part number and clear photos of both sides, the hub and the thread.
- Measurements: compare the outside diameter, overall depth, hub dimensions and shaft connection with the relevant drawing.
- Pump assembly: check the diffuser and other mating components for the exact pump version.
A 2 HP motor rating or a similar-looking impeller is not enough to establish fit. Compare the dimensions and shaft connection with the original part and the relevant pump drawing before ordering.
What to inspect when replacing an impeller
Reduced flow can have several causes, including a blocked basket, air leaks or a damaged impeller. Inspect the pump according to its service manual before deciding which part to replace. Depending on the condition of the assembly, a repair may also involve a pump mechanical seal, diffuser gasket or O-ring; these are not automatically included.
Installation and service
Disconnect and isolate power before servicing. Follow the pump manufacturer's instructions for disassembly, rotation and reassembly, and use a qualified technician when necessary. Check the pump for leaks and correct operation after service in accordance with its manual.
